How to Dye Your Hair at Home: Step-by-Step Guide

Attractive Woman Dyeing Her Hair

It can be overwhelming when you're standing in front of hundreds of hair dye boxes at the drugstore. After all, there are so many options, and it's easy to choose the wrong product if you don't go prepared.

This is why you should really think about what direction you want your hair color to go, if you're going to cover up grays, or if you're just coloring the roots. By going to the store prepared, you'll cut half of the confusion out of the equation because you'll be able to pinpoint the products you actually need. So if you're in the market to color your hair, here is a step-by-step guide for you to follow.

*Note: Most of the items that you need will come in the home hair dye kit including gloves, instructions, a bottle of formula, and a bottle of activator. You will also need to gather an old towel, paper towels, Vaseline, a hair clip, scissors, a timer and a paint brush.

Choose the color you want for your hair while keeping in mind your skin tone and natural hair color.
For example: if you have really pale skin, you shouldn't dye your hair black so as to avoid looking washed-out.Take the instructions, gloves, color mixes labeled 1 and 2, and conditioner out of the box. Then cut the number off of the box indicating what color it is, and keep this number somewhere safe so that you know what color to buy when your ready to re-color in a month or two; the number is usually at the top of the box in one of the corners.
Note: If you don't find all of the aforementioned items in the box, return the box to the store and exchange it for another.Begin by reading the instructions carefully. Set up your items so that they are easy to reach; have your old towel, paper towel, timer, and wear an old t-shirt before you get started. It's best to test a very small patch of your hair a day or two before you color your whole head of hair. A lot of people don't do this, and risk having a chemical or allergic reaction. Part your hair at the ears, pull a very small patch from the center of your head, and clip or tie back the rest of your hair.Put on the gloves that came in the box, and make sure any furniture you will be sitting on or near is protected with a towel. To avoid dyeing your ears, neck and forehead, apply a lip gloss or Vaseline. The areas that get the most unwanted dye are the back of the neck, slightly below the hair line, and on the top of the ears, so keep this in mind.Unscrew cap to the formula bottle labeled 1, then use scissors to cut the tip off of the activator bottle labeled 3.
Next, remove the cap, and mix the two liquids together as the instructions say. This involves pouring the contents of the formula bottle labeled 1 into the activator bottle labeled 2. With the cap on the activator bottle ,and your finger covering the tip, shake the bottle until the mixture is blended together. Now it's time to apply the color mixture to your hair. Note that there are different instructions for permanent and non-permanent hair dye, and some dyes require you to wet your hair, so it's important to read the directions inside of the box. Begin at the roots and move towards the tips of your hair.

For the most natural look, start applying hair dye where your natural part is. You can use a paint brush to make it easier to apply, but you'll also need to put your mixed color into a bowl.

A little rule of thumb: when you're dying your hair darker, begin applying color on the front sections because your hair tends to be lighter in the front. It is just the opposite when you dye your hair lighter because you should begin in the back.

As soon as you've finished applying the dye to your hair, throw the gloves away, and set the timer for the time mentioned in the directions. Wet a paper towel and wipe any excess dye off of your face, neck, arm or anything else that got messy. Most at-home hair dyes require 10-20 minutes depending on the length, color, and the amount of gray hair that you have. Try not to do anything to disturb your hair dye as it can easily drip and stain carpet, clothes, furniture, and in some cases, bathroom tile. When the timer goes off, use lukewarm-to-cool water to rinse the dye from your hair until the water runs clear.
Tip: Open the conditioner that came with the dye kit before you begin rinsing so that you don't have to struggle with it when your hands are wet.Once you've rinsed your hair, apply the already open conditioner, while running your fingers through your hair from root to tip. You can use a clip to keep your hair out of the water for 2-3 minutes. After the 2-3 minutes with conditioner on your hair, rinse and let air-dry for best results.
Don't shampoo until the next day or two to avoid drying your hair out.

As long as you follow the instructions, your hair should turn out great. Also, read the labels of the hair dye kits before purchasing. Some dyes are meant only for gray hair, while others are semi-permanent and fade away over time.

It's a lot easier than it sounds, and with practice, you'll be able to give yourself highlights without going to a salon! Doing your own hair is fun, and can be more rewarding than paying $70 or more at a salon (Salon vs. At-Home Hair Color). Plus there is no guarantee that the stylist won't make mistakes with your hair. Everyone probably wishes they were natural beauties from top to toe, just getting out of bed looking like an angel without putting any effort in to your looks. Well unfortunately everyone is not that lucky. Thanks to some fashionistas and celebrities the natural beauty trend has been created where you leave the house in the morning looking gorgeous without having had brushed your hair or even have put any make-up on. Here are some hints and tips on how to style your hair in the morning but still look like a natural beauty.

Natural Hair Style

An easy thing to do is to let your hair dry naturally after your shower; it might sound too obvious but it works. Or wash the hair in the evening and add some hair product such as curl gel and the gather all the hair in a bun and let it dry over night. In the morning you will have some natural waves and flicks.

You can also use a pair of ghd straighteners to create those waves and flicks. Make some waves in different sizes randomly in the hair. Then part the waves or flicks using your fingers and add just a tiny bit of hairspray or curl spray, just enough so you do not lose the natural look. The ghd IV styler is a quality pair of straighteners which suits most hair types. They are available to buy online at ghdhair.com.

If you want your hair looking natural but still big, use volume shampoo and conditioner; the effect may not last the whole day so add some holding hairspray.

Also try to avoid poker straight locks if you want the natural look; instead aim for the messy just got out of bed look.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil: Uses and Benefits

Eucalyptus Essential Oil: Uses & Benefits

Tweet Share

While many essential oils provide similar benefits, Eucalyptus essentials oil offers more unique benefits. You can use Eucalyptus oil to do everything from healing wounds faster to solving respiratory problems such as bronchitis and asthma. Of course, like many other essential oils, Eucalyptus can also be used as a hair care product or as a household aroma. If all of this sounds great, read on to find out everything you need to know about Eucalyptus essential oils.

Eucalyptus Leaf

The majority of Eucalyptus oils come from Australia, where it is extracted from evergreen Eucalyptus trees that grow there. However, Eucalyptus is also sparsely found in other parts of the world such as Asia and Africa.

Going back to Australia, it's widely believed that the Aborigines here are the first ones to have discovered and used Eucalyptus essential oils. The Aborigines used these oils to cure everything from breathing problems to muscle pains. Interestingly enough, Eucalyptus oils are still used for many of the same things today!

One more thing worth mentioning about Eucalyptus essential oils is that they are a top note, meaning they work fast so you get the benefits right away; however, top notes also fade away quicker than middle and bases notes, so you won't have long to soak up the benefits of Eucalyptus.

As far as the color of Eucalyptus essential oils go, this product ranges from colorless to pale yellow. Eucalyptus oils are also very thin, and they give off a fresh, earthy aroma when used. So make sure to keep all of this in mind when looking for quality Eucalyptus oil.

Treating Respiratory Problems
If you have a respiratory problem such as asthma, bronchitis or congestion, Eucalyptus oil is a great product to use. Gargling a little Eucalyptus oil with warm water has been shown to treat all of the aforementioned problems because Eucalyptus is a very good decongestant and anti-inflammatory.

Muscle Pain Relief
Eucalyptus oils are a popular treatment for sore muscles because you can simply massage them into the afflicted area and get instant results. Everything from minor problems such as stiff or sore muscles to serious problems like sprained ligaments and nerve pain can be relieved through a Eucalyptus oil massage.

Mouth Wash
Because of its strong germicidal properties, you can use it as a mouthwash. Just by gargling Eucalyptus daily, you can prevent cavities, and keep your mouth fresh and clean!

Wounds and Abscesses
Eucalyptus is one of the best essential oils for treating wounds and abscesses. Just putting a few drops of oil on a dressing can work wonders when healing a wound due to the strong antiseptic properties of this essential oil. You can also use Eucalyptus essential oils on bug bites and bee stings.

Dandruff Treatment
Those having a bout with dandruff should try ridding the problem with Eucalyptus oils. All you need to do is put several drops of oil into your shampoo and massage it into your hair.

Air Freshener
Due to its fast-acting nature and pleasant aroma, Eucalyptus essential oils make a perfect air freshener. Not only will you get the soft, earthy smell of Eucalyptus through your house, but this product also kills germs and bacteria.

Before we get into any of the uses for Eucalyptus essential oils, bear in mind that you need to be careful with the quantity you use. This is especially true when using Eucalyptus as a massage oil because too much can irritate the skin. With this being the case, only mix several drops of Eucalyptus essential oil in with massage oils before using.

The same rules apply when using Eucalyptus oils to treat wounds and bee stings; you shouldn't use any more than a few drops on the dressing you put on the wound. Overusing Eucalyptus oil could cause the wound to get worse, and even make the afflicted person nauseous or sick.

When gargling Eucalyptus essential oil, it's highly recommended that you avoid swallowing the oil afterward. Instead, simply mix a few drops of Eucalyptus oil into warm water, gargle the solution, then spit it out into the sink. As a good rule of thumb, you should never swallow Eucalyptus or any other essential oil unless a licensed/reputable doctor instructs you to do so (which probably won't happen).

It is okay to inhale Eucalyptus oils when treating respiratory problems, but again, the key is to do this in moderation. A couple of small drops on a cloth should do the trick without making you feel bad afterward.

You can also combine Eucalyptus oil with other essential oils such as rosemary, cedar wood and lavender essential oil.

Eucalyptus oil is one of the more popular essential oils, so you shouldn't have a whole lot of trouble finding it. Most chain stores sell 5 oz., 12 oz. and 16 oz. bottles of this product, while you can also find it online. In many cases, it's best to shop online because you can often find better deals on Eucalyptus over the internet.

Of course, you need to make sure that you're buying Eucalyptus essential oils from a trusted source because there are some companies that sell low quality products. Some of the lesser products don't have an odor and/or will be darker in appearance (remember, quality Eucalyptus oil is clear or pale yellow).

Now this isn't to scare you off from buying Eucalyptus essential oils online because you can get all of its amazing benefits at a fraction of the cost over the internet. Instead, you just need to be careful when buying this product so that you don't get ripped off. Assuming you get good quality product, you will be able to enjoy its ability to soothe aching muscles, heal wounds, alleviate respiratory problems and make your house smell better!

Sick, undernourished hair and dandruff

Sick Hair and Dandruff: Food for Hair & Vitamins

Tweet Share

Not everybody knows that hair is alive, growing and has to be properly nourished, as many other types of tissues. Hair root is nourished with lots of substances, which we absorb with food every day, through blood vessels. Therefore if we become helpless about the problem of dandruff and seborrhoea, this means that our hair needs vitamins, bio-components, and other essential building elements. It has been proved that hair which lacks of vitamins and minerals becomes sick, greasy and begins to fall out. However, if hair is full of vitamin and mineral, it is shiny and silky and soft. Therefore, if your hair is undernourished, use some shampoo with zinc to improve its condition.

Bad Hair

Hair Structure
Hair and nails, according to physiology, are components of human skin tissue. Their basic component is keratin, which is a type of protein. A very important for the condition of hair is sulphur, a biological element of this protein, which is connected with amino acids: cystein (up to 17% of hair) and metionin (0.5%). Hair structure, its thickness and richness, as well as its gloss and resilience depend on whether our body receives the proper amount of sulphur and other nourishing substances.

How to Nourish our Hair Well?
Hair should be given sulphur amino acids mainly because it is what hair needs most. Amino acids are the best building components for hair. They make hair grow and become strong and beautiful. When hair lacks amino acids, it will become weak, thin and entangled. In other words is sick and ugly, then.

Where do we find sulphur amino acids?
There are such types of food where we may find "ready-for-use" sulphur amino acids, e.g. non-fat beef, beans, fish and eggs. It is worth reminding, though, that in the case of sulphur amino acids deficiency in our food, our body is able to produce them on their own, unless it is not given the proper amount of sulphur. Our grandmothers seemed to know all about that. That is why they recommended such "traditional" cure as raphanus to repair one’s weakened and dry hair. Other plants and vegetables rich in sulphur are: radish, horse-radish, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cuckoo-flower, broccoli, cauliflower and onion.

Microelements are equally important
The most important microelements are: zinc, copper, iron and sulphur. They stimulate the growth of hair as well as improve its general condition and look. Hair can get "soaked" with microelements, which makes it look strong, shiny and beautiful.

Iron - there is a lot of it in beef, in broad bean, in sesame seeds or in giblets and in red meat, for instance.Zinc - is to be found in beef and cheese, giblets, wheat sprouts, yeast, eggs and milk.Sulphur - is in peas, onion, cheese and cuckoo-flower.Silicon - is in porridge and pearl barley.Copper - is in giblets as well as in peas and beans.

There are also vitamins essential for the look and condition of hair, for instance, pro-vitamin B5 and others from the group of vitamin B.

If we notice that white and dry flakes fall from our head quite often, this may be the sign that we suffer from seborrhoea which appears when the skin on the scalp gets too greasy. This is caused when there is insufficiency of vitamins B1, B2 and B6 and B5 in our diet. This is not dependent on any hormones, however.

The necessary daily amount of both vitamin and mineral in 100grams of various products, in comparison to a daily requirement of these, is such:

For vitamin B1: chicken breast, pork chop, sunflower seeds provide 1/2 of daily amount of B1For vitamin B2: broccoli will provide 1/2 of daily amount of B2; milk, yoghurt and pork provide 1/4 of daily amount of B2.For B6: sardines, bananas, liver (1/2 of daily amount of B6).For B5: mushrooms (2/3 of daily dose); mung Chinese bean (1/2) and broccoli (1/4). If we want to make our hair stronger and prevent the hair loss we should provide our hair with vitamin B12 which is in chicken liver and in beef.

If we also eat food with lots of vitamins A and E, our hair will always look glossy and beautiful. All you need to remember is to limit fat, carbohydrates spicy food and alcohol in your diet.

The easiest way is to buy the vitamin and mineral supplements in the pharmacy and take a daily dose according to prescription.

In fighting with dandruff and seborrhoea we may find and ally in the right shampoo. If we have a problem with dandruff, for instance, we should use the shampoo with zinc salt which helps a lot. There are also shampoo types which use the healing features of bitumen.

Foundation for Summer

Makeup Foundation for Summer

Tweet Share

Changing your makeup style with the seasons is a natural as changing your wardrobe. In the hotter summer months, your goal is create a fresh, natural look and foundation can help you achieve it. Those that are lucky enough to have flawless skin may be able to go without it in the winter, but the rest of us still prefer to use foundation to help smooth out skin tone. Just because it’s hot, doesn’t mean your looks have to suffer. Here are a few tips on using foundation in the summer.

Foundation for summer - Pink/Purple

An important thing to remember when it comes to foundation is that your skin tone is likely darker in the summer than it is in the winter, so you may need to purchase a foundation that better suits your summer skin. It’s always best if you can buy foundation in a place with plenty of light, and natural light if possible, so you’ll get a better idea of how you’ll look when you leave the house. Do try to test a small amount of foundation before you buy, because the color could react with your skin and end up a slightly different color than how it looks in the bottle. Don’t forget to make sure the color will blend well with your neckline.

The type of foundation you use may be dependant on how hot it gets where you live. If you live in the hottest of temperatures in summer, try to find a foundation that advertises staying-power, which will help the foundation stay in place even on the hottest of days. Choose a liquid foundation over a cream, which will help your skin breathe and stay healthy. Always apply moisturizer before foundation, as this will help ensure that the foundation goes on smoothly and creates a uniform color. If you already have a foundation you love but want to adapt it for summer, try combining a small amount with an equally small amount of moisturizer, which will thin it out and provide you with a lighter coat.

Make Up for Older Women. Natural Woman...

Beauty Tips > Makeup Tips > Make Up Articles >
Makeup for Older Woman

Tweet Share

Make up for older women should serve two purposes. First it should add color to faded skin. Second it should conceal minor flaws and wrinkles as much as possible. Having said this, it’s important to understand that make up for older women is not intended to layer the face in foundations and colors that attempt to make ladies look younger. They are intended to bring out the natural mature beauty, which can make a woman look younger more as a by-product then as a goal. Women with mature skin are as beautiful as the dewy youth – just in a different way.

Older woman applying makeup

To start, the foundation for mature skin should be close to medium-weight. Mature skin has wrinkles and a heavy foundation can actually make the wrinkles look deeper. If you have mature skin, you should always err on the lighter or sheerer side of foundations. A sheer or medium-weight foundation will reflect light and cover up many blemishes. An oil-based foundation should be applied on top of a daytime moisturizer designed for mature skin.

A rule of thumb for applying make up for older women is to not use too much. When make-up is too heavy, and doesn’t blend into your skin tone or highlight your best features, it can actually make you look older. We’ve all seen women who obviously think more make up is better, but that’s a fallacy when it comes to mature skin. Also, your eye shadow and brow colors should blend with your skin tone. The eye shadows used should be cream based, because they will moisturize while hiding flaws. The appearance of dark bags under the eyes can be minimized with a concealer which is one shade lighter than your foundation.

Another tip for applying make up for older women includes using a very small amount of blush on the cheeks that creates a glowing, rather than a clownish, look. Also, make up for older women should include lipstick with moisturizer in the formula. Older women’s lips will dry out and need frequent moisturizing.

Careful selection and application of make up for older women can enhance any mature women’s beauty. Soft application and color designed to highlight natural beauty, while downplaying signs of aging, usually results in melting the years away.

Pillow Creases. What a Strange Line!

Pillow Creases – What a Strange Line!

Tweet Share

Finding pillow creases in your face can be a bit alarming. You wake up in the morning and discover a brand new deep wrinkle that was not there yesterday. Pillow increases occur as a result of sleeping on a wrinkled pillow case or where skin is pulled and creased. Fortunately it's not a permanent wrinkle and will smooth itself out within a couple of hours. But who has a couple of hours to wait for wrinkles to disappear when in a rush to get to work?

Woman sleeping in bed on the pillow

When you sleep the skin is busy doing most of its regeneration. By pressing your facial skin against the pillow in the same position for hours, proper blood circulation can be impeded. This is one reason why people wake up with swollen faces and those bothersome pillow creases. In addition, the skin may actually look red and irritated too. To get rid of a pillow crease quickly, you can wash your face in warm water and then rub in a moisturizer to restore skin suppleness.

To prevent pillow creases, the obvious solution is to sleep on your back if possible. If you must sleep on your side, use a silk pillowcase which minimizes pillow creases. Also, make sure you use a moisturizer regularly in order to keep your skin supple and able to bounce back quickly. Though pillow creases are not permanent wrinkles, they can cause skin problems over a period of time. Permanent wrinkles in the face are caused by collagen degradation due to aging and repeated muscle use in the same way, i.e. frowning or squinting can create wrinkles between the eyes. Repeated pillow creases can cause skin problems in a similar manner.

The best approach is to prevent pillow creases from the start. You can do this by sleeping on your back, using silk pillowcases, and just as importantly, applying a night time moisturizer that protects the skin.
